Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)
What is NLP?
Neuro-linguistic programming provides a means of identifying the key factors that contribute to how you do something. It is an approach that helps you to: improve your effectiveness in any area of your life; overcome limiting thoughts and emotions; and, expand the range of possibilities that are available to you.
NLP involves considering how you think and use your five senses to perceive and process information (the ‘neuro’ aspect). It also takes account of the language patterns you use to communicate, give meaning to, and store experiences and thoughts (the ‘linguistic’ aspect). Lastly, NLP helps you to understand the mental strategies; beliefs; values; and rules that underpin your feelings, thoughts and behaviour in the situations of interest (the ‘programming’ aspect). Such exploration allows you to identify the elements of your ‘mental processing’ that are contributing to your issues (and your successes). Numerous techniques can then be used to help you to: address unhelpful perceptions and unwanted experiences; enhance your coping skills; and, provide you with more options to achieve your goals.
